Job Description We are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer with extensive expertise in designing, architecting, and implementing robust, scalable backend solutions. You will be responsible for leading technical strategies, ensuring system reliability, and delivering high-impact solutions that integrate seamlessly with advanced AI technologies. Your experience and insights will shape the architecture of critical backend systems that power internal and external applications. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with senior leadership, product managers, data scientists, AI specialists, and Dev Ops teams. You will play a pivotal role in technical decision-making, architectural leadership, and mentorship of backend engineering teams. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Backend Architecture & System Design Architect and lead the development of high-performance, scalable backend systems capable of handling significant traffic, real-time processing, and advanced AI integrations. Define standards and best practices for microservices architecture, API design, database schema, and distributed systems. Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge backend technologies and frameworks to enhance system efficiency and reliability. Technical Leadership & Strategy Provide strategic and technical leadership, guiding the backend engineering roadmap aligned with business objectives. Lead technical architecture discussions and facilitate design reviews to ensure alignment with scalability, maintainability, and security goals. Advise senior management and stakeholders on technical feasibility, risks, and mitigation strategies. API Development & Integration Design and oversee the implementation of secure, efficient, and scalable APIs and microservices. Ensure seamless integration with frontend systems, AI services, third-party APIs, and data platforms. Develop and enforce API governance, documentation, and version control. Cloud Infrastructure & Dev Ops Lead cloud infrastructure initiatives, leveraging major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) to deploy scalable backend services. Drive Dev Ops practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes). Champion site reliability engineering (SRE) practices to maximize uptime, reliability, and observability. Data & AI Integration Collaborate with Data Scientists and AI teams to architect systems supporting AI workloads, model training, and inference endpoints. Implement high-throughput, low-latency data pipelines using streaming technologies (Kafka, Pub/Sub). Ensure data systems support analytics, AI, and business intelligence effectively. Performance Optimization & Monitoring Establish rigorous performance monitoring, alerting systems, and continuous optimization processes. Identify and resolve scalability bottlenecks, improve system throughput, and reduce latency. Lead technical initiatives focused on capacity planning, load balancing, caching strategies, and database optimization. Security & Compliance Ensure backend architectures comply with industry standards and security best practices. Lead initiatives around secure coding, vulnerability assessments, encryption, and compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA). Foster a culture of security awareness within the backend engineering team. Mentorship & Team Development Mentor backend engineering team members, providing guidance, code reviews, and technical coaching. Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions, foster professional growth, and drive team excellence. Collaborate closely with HR and management on recruitment, talent acquisition, and training initiatives. REQUIREMENTS: Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical fields (or equivalent experience). Experience10+ years of proven experience in backend engineering with significant expertise in system architecture and design. Extensive experience building scalable, high-performance systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure). Demonstrated leadership in technical strategy, architecture planning, and execution. Technical Skills Expert-level proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Python, Go, or Node.js. Deep knowledge of microservices architectures, RESTful APIs, g RPC, and event-driven designs. Strong experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes). Proven expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation (Terraform, Cloud Formation), and site reliability engineering practices. Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, Pub/Sub) and databases (SQL, No SQL). AI & Data Integration Experience designing systems for AI integration, model serving, and data-intensive workloads. Knowledge of modern data pipeline tools and practices, including real-time streaming and batch processing. Portfolio Demonstrable track record of complex backend system designs and successful implementation in high-impact projects. Contributions to open-source projects or publications in relevant technical communities are highly valued.
