This role will include journal entries, related reconciliation reports, query management, and providing commentaries to stakeholders. The incumbent will help ensure the integrity of internal controls and delivery of required outputs. Key Responsibilities: Ownership and management of Manulife Asia accrual tool and its processes. Responsible for ensuring timely approval of accrual transactions, review of supporting documentations based on internal guidelines, user access management, issue management including technical support resolution, user trainings, and tool enhancement. Partner with technology teams to ensure that the Accrual tool is running as scheduled and correctly processes all journal entries within a batch. Ensure issues are managed with the proper support group in a timely manner. Review accrual transaction report to ensure that accrual allocation is appropriate, meets tax transfer pricing requirements, and is understood and accepted by stakeholders. Ensure proper and complete elimination of accrual transactions on Group level. Provide timely, accurate and insightful expense commentary, spending trends and patterns, potential savings (SCM) / accrual needed to stakeholders for business decisions and to drive expense accountability for the Asia functions. Work with Finance Controller groups across business areas to build and define accounting models for new accrual processes. This includes onboarding of new transactions to existing tools. Promote team efficiency and process effectiveness to improve the teams’ day-to-day operations. Ensure that controls are sufficiently designed, documented, and evidenced to satisfy risk, audit, and regulatory objectives. Mitigate operational risks and ensure that issues are timely escalated, and resolution is effective. Timely and effective preparation of KPI reports, business dashboards and other metrics as required by management as well as the Business Unit. Drive the sharing of best practices, fostering collaboration and innovation across users of the tool. Actively share insights to develop, implement, maintain, and operationalize expense policies to ensure that an expense-conscious culture is embedded within Manulife Asia. Special Projects: Special projects will arise from time to time requiring strong financial knowledge, analytical and organizational skills with an innovative mindset. The role will participate in Asia regional priorities and strategic projects as assigned or other Adhoc activities as required by senior management pertaining to the introduction of new services, products, and processes. Qualifications: University Business Degree and/or recognized accounting designation (CPA is preferred)5+ years of progressive financial accounting experience Hybrid Work Arrangement: Amenability and readiness to work onsite and from home anytime (dependent on business need AND/OR current external environment/situation) and must be willing to work on a day shift schedule. Skills to Hire/Nice to Haves: Strong stakeholder management skills requiring persuasion and influencing, relationship building and negotiation skill. Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Strong technical accounting skills. Power BI, Alteryx or database knowledge is an advantage. Self-starter, detail-oriented, willingness to take ownership and accountability of processes. Strong oral/written communication skills required to interact with senior officers and representatives from other Divisions and functional departments. Highly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment and manage multiple priorities. Understanding of Lawson or general finance systems / applications available in the market. Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel (i.e. mastery of excel formulas and pivot tables is a must).
